Apple bans Alex Jones’ Info Wars on AppStore

Apple on Friday banned the controversial Info Wars app from the App Store. Info Wars is an app developed by popular conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Apple became the latest of the many tech companies which have banned the app from their platforms.

Jones is a controversial right-wing talk show host and is subject to regular criticism for his peculiar comments. He suggested that the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre was nothing but a hoax and made many such objectionable claims. Tech Giants like Facebook, Google, Spotify, Twitter, and Periscope have taken down Info War-related content.

Apple hence took down the app, stating ‘objectionable content’ as the reason.

“defamatory, discriminatory, or mean-spirited content, including references or commentary about religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, national/ethnic origin, or other targeted groups, particularly if the app is likely to humiliate, intimidate, or place a targeted individual or group in harm’s way.”

As a response to being taken down from such platforms, Jones stated on his website

I was taken down not because we lied but because we tell the truth and because we were popular.”

Apple stated that for the time Info Wars stayed on the Appstore, it did not violate any of its behavioral and content policies. The app has now been cut off so as it reduces its availability to the audience and users. Apple wants to make sure that people do not get exposed to his ‘brain-washing’ content.

However, as it is said ‘Old habits die hard’. The users of the app are now using Info Wars’ official website and links directed by Jones to download the app. It is still available on the Android platform. Apple users can still access the website through Safari since the website is still functional.

Apple does not support such content and thereby removed the app on 7th September from AppStore all around the globe.
