Why did Apple create Apple Sports?
Apple is pushing further into sports, as it sees an opportunity to attract and retain customers with its services. According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services, “We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats. Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favorite teams and leagues.”
Apple Sports is also a way for Apple to showcase its original sports content, such as the documentary series Greatness Code, which features stories of iconic athletes, and the comedy series Ted Lasso, which follows an American football coach who takes over a British soccer team. Apple is also reportedly working on a sports podcast network, which could complement its sports app.
