Balatro: A Roguelite Deckbuilder That Shines on Switch
The first place in the Nintendo Life eShop Selects goes to Balatro, a roguelite deckbuilder that was originally one of the options for the Reader’s Choice vote. However, after receiving a lot of praise from the readers, Nintendo Life decided to check it out for themselves and were impressed by its gameplay, visuals, and music. Balatro is a challenging and rewarding game that offers a lot of replay value and customization options. Nintendo Life gave it a 10/10 in their review.
Pentiment: A Medieval Murder Mystery with a Twist
The second place in the Nintendo Life eShop Selects goes to Pentiment, a game that was called a “hidden gem” when it was released on Xbox and PC in 2022. Now it’s on Switch (and PS5), and it feels right at home on the hybrid console. Pentiment is a game that blends RPG elements with point-and-click gameplay, and tells a captivating story that celebrates typefaces, fonts, and the medieval era. Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!: The Return of Game Freak’s Best Game
The third place in the Nintendo Life eShop Selects goes to Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!, a remake of one of the best 3DS games ever made. Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! is a game that combines solitaire and horse racing, and it’s as fun and addictive as it sounds. The game also features hilarious writing and charming visuals, and it’s a perfect fit for the Switch. Nintendo Life rated it a 9/10 in their review.
Reader’s Choice: Arcade Archives Rainbow Islands
The winner of the Reader’s Choice vote for February 2024 is Arcade Archives Rainbow Islands, a classic arcade game from Taito that was released on the Switch eShop on February 18th. Rainbow Islands is a sequel to Bubble Bobble, and it features the same cute characters and colorful graphics, but with a different gameplay mechanic. Instead of blowing bubbles, the player can create rainbows that can be used as platforms, weapons, or shields. Rainbow Islands is a nostalgic and enjoyable game that received 21% of the votes from the readers.
