You might have noticed guest user account on Mac’s login screen. This is not an actual user account, but there is a safety precaution in case you lose your Mac. If you log into default Guest user account, you can notice that Mac will restart to secured version of Safari only. Guest user account will have access to internet. In case when you lose your mac, then if any body finds it then they can go online through this guest user account.
It is good to keep this default guest account on your Mac. Using this guest account no one can access your files, folders and applications. I recommend you to keep this guest user account, but if you want to delete it then here is how to do that.
How to disable guest user account in Mountain Lion
- Navigate to system preferences either through Apple menu or spotlight.
- Click on users & groups under the System section.
- Click on the lock located at the bottom left of the screen and enter your username and password. This let you make the changes on this screen.
- Click on guest user account located under Other users in the left column.
- You will find three option here, “allow guest to login”, “enable parental controls” and “allow guests to connect to shared folders”.You need to uncheck all these options to disable the guest user account.
- That’s it, guest user account has been unlocked and you will not see it on the login screen anymore, when your mac is locked or logout.
