Steve Fisher, eBay’s senior vice president in the recently held eBay open seller conference said “Apple Pay is one of the most ubiquitous forms of payments and provides users with an easy, fast and secure way to pay.” He added “Offering Apple Pay as a form of payment on eBay is the first step in providing more choice and flexibility in payment options to our tens of millions of buyers.
Apple Pay will not be available for every product in the beginning. It will start with a few products and departments and then would slowly spread to more items. And, by 2021 it is expected to cover all the products and enntore eBay sysstem. This surely is a god news for the Apple Pay users.
What about Paypal?
Fischer also talked about Paypal, which is eBay’s own payment service. He told that till 2023 Paypal will be in service and right now there is no plan of removing it even later. eBay has been in business with Paypal since like 20 years now. Right now eBay is just focused on adding Apple Pay not removing any payment option. But its a possibility that it removes Paypal in near future. Whatever happens, we will know.
According to the reports, Apple doesn’t share Apple Pay’s contribution to service revenue. Also, Apple’s services business is credited for smoothing out concerns about seasonality in iPhone, Mac, and iPad sales. Having even a small percentage of eBay’s sales processed certainly wont hurt.
