GM announces CarPlay support for 2016 Cadillac models


General Motors or GM that 2016 model year products from their luxury car division Cadillac will feature new and enhanced connectivity and control due to the addition of CarPlay and Android Auto. The move is part of a broader enhancement to CUE, Cadillac’s infotainment/user experience portal.

The company noted that CarPlay will debut in all 2016 Cadillac models that feature CUE’s 8-in multi touch screen expect the SRX Crossover vehicle. Production on 2016 models will begin this summer, except for the SRX, which is moving to an all-new generation in early 2016. Android Auto will debut in late 2016.

Executive Chief Engineer David Leone says Cadillac’s product transformation includes continuing upgrades to connectivity and in-car technology. This year Cadillac became the first luxury brand to feature broad use of wireless charging and 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, and now in 2016 we’re moving quickly to enhance phone integration and overall system performance.

Actually was introduced by the California-based company in the spring of 2014 as a “smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car. Later the company has taken criticism for their lack of focus on the feature and slow release. Several car manufacturers have pledged support for CarPlay, but a year later few of them have vehicles available.
