Once you send a message to any person using iMessage then there’s no getting it back as it hits Apple’s servers. This is the reason you have to intercept the message before Apple’s servers receive it. This also means you can act fast before the blue progress bar reaches the right side of the screen after sending the message.
The logic here is to disconnect the internet connection as soon as possible before the message reaches Apple’s servers and because iPhones have both WiFi and cellular data capabilities available for getting data in and out. The best bet is to enable the Airplane Mode enabled as quickly as possible after sending the message.
This article provides two different methods for non-jailbroken and jailbroken devices and you have to simply follow the steps given below.
Steps to stop outgoing iMessage before it sent on Non-Jailbroken device:
In some situations, you can pop open Control Center and tap the Airplane Mode button quickly. This means swiping down the keyboard you were just typing on and opening Control Center to tap the Airplane Mode button, sometimes in just a second, or a fraction of a second.
The only downside to this method is that you’re really changing it because it can take more time to perform these steps than it may take for the iMessage to send with today’s high-speed Internet connections. Follow the steps given below:
- While the iMessage is still sending, swipe down to dismiss the keyboard and then open the control center.
- Now you have to quickly tap Airplane Mode before the blue progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.
- Dismiss the message telling you about how Airplane Mode needs to be turned off to send messages.
- A red Not delivered indicator should appear as shown in the below picture.
- Now remove the message from the conversation by tapping and hold on the message and then click on the delete option.
- Re-enable Wi-Fi and cellular data by turning Airplane Mode back on.
- That’s it.
Steps to stop an outgoing iMessage before it sent on Jailbroken device:
Jailbroken devices have another advantage: Activator. With Activator installed from Cydia, you can assign any gesture to enable Airplane Mode, and that’s what we did for this tutorial since we’ve only seldom been able to accomplish this task with the former method of trying to beat the clock to open Control Center.
Activator gestures can be far more time-efficient than stock iOS gestures, so for this instance, we opted to assign a three-finger tap gesture to toggling Airplane Mode on or off.
Follow the steps that are given below.
- Install activator from Cydia if you haven’t already.
- Assign your favorite gesture to toggling Airplane Mode on or off.
- While an iMessage is sending, invoke your Activator gesture before the blue progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.
- Now dismiss the message telling you about how Airplane Mode needs to be turned off to send messages.
- A red Not delivered indicator will appear and remove the message from the conversation by tapping and holding the message and click on delete option.
- Now re-enable the WiFi and cellular data by turning Airplane Mode back off.
- That’s it.
