iPhone X is still trending as the latest innovation and we have already started to talk about the features of next year’s iPhone. In a report last month, we had written about KGI Security’s Ming-Chi Kuo predicting Apple to launch its new phone with 6.1 inch LCD Display. Today, a new report by Nikkei has suggested that Apple will be launching the new smartphone with a metal back instead of glass back, which was seen in iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
Change in the material for the back panel was one of the only design changes observed in Apple iPhone 8 compared to that of iPhone 7. iPhone 8 supports wireless charging and it is made possible because of the newly implemented glass back panel. The report by Nikkei also suggests that the new iPhone will come in many color options.
One of the sections of the report states
“The 6.1-inch LCD model will likely sport a metal back [like older iPhone handsets] that will come in several colors,” said the source, adding that the two OLED handsets will come in two sizes: one either 6.2 or 6.3 inches long, and the other 5.8 inches.
According to the rumors, we have till now, Apple is expected to launch two new iPhones next year. The cheaper version will have a 6.1-inch screen with LCD display and metal back, whereas, the flagship version will have 6.5-inch (Nikkei suggests 6.2 or 6.3-inch, whereas, KGI Securities suggests 6.5-inch) OLED display with glass back panel. Also, having a glass back panel does not leave too many options to experiment with the color and that is one of the reasons behind this year’s iPhones coming with lesser color options to choose.
Earlier reports have suggested that Apple might be looking at the cost-saving option and that can be one of the reasons behind it switching back to an aluminum back panel. Also, it is still not clear if the cheaper option will be able to support wireless charging. Apple is also expected to launch a revamped version of iPhone SE earlier next year.
The launch of Apple’s new iPhone is still almost a year away. So we can not really confirm on any of these hints and rumors. However, we do hope that like every year, Apple does give reasons to rejoice to all its fans.
