The 2010 platformer game, Limbo was released for iOS in 2013. The game lets you play as a boy who has lost his sister. The minimal sound, dark setting and lack of non-player characters make it look like a horror game. You don’t need to be afraid as it is a puzzle based game.
About the game
You need to think quickly and intelligently to avoid death. It has lots of hazards like the bear traps, monsters such as giant spiders lurking in the shadows and worms which can make the game world challenging to navigate. Physical puzzles which involve machines and electromagnets which can be activated are present in the game. The character might die if the machines aren’t activated carefully. The game has checkpoints from where you can restart making it easier to play. The game doesn’t provide you with a lot of hints so you need to solve the puzzle with trial and error. This could be frustrating at times but you will be delighted once you pass such hurdles. Game achievements include finding hidden insect eggs and completing the game with five or fewer deaths.
Gameplay
I feared that the on-screen buttons would reduce the immersion in the darkness of Limbo. Thankfully, there are no on-screen buttons. You swipe in the direction you want to go and swiping up makes the character jump while pressing the screen when near a lever or other such object performs the action.
Conclusion
The game is great and plays very well on the iOS. The simplistic design and intriguing puzzle make it an enjoyable experience. Being linear it lacks the replayability though. You can get it from here.
