- Huawei leads the pack; Oppo and Vivo follow
- Xiaomi overtakes Apple
- Apple drops down to fifth
We recently informed how the Smartphone market in China is taking a dive. China’s smartphone market is facing a decline in the number of devices being shipped.
Chinese native smartphone makers Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi have surged ahead of Apple in recent quarters. This made Apple drop down to fifth place in terms of market share.
As per the survey conducted by global Technology market analysis and research firm Canalys, Huawei leads the pack with shipping numbers hitting 23 million. Oppo short by 2 million, had to make peace with the second spot shipping over 21 million smartphones. In house Vivo, secured a third spot with 16 million and Xiaomi managed to go up the list with 15 million smartphones shipping.
Once the one and only dominant Apple, has been trailing in fifth since early 2016 and holds roughly 10.7% of the market with 13 millions smartphones shipped, according to Canalys.
The overtake by the Chinese smartphone brands can be credited to their ability to provide pseudo premium features at a lower rate as compared to Apple’s iPhone. Xiaomi is considered the best company providing value for money in the market. Their Redmi series has killed the competition in market. As if the online dominance wasn’t enough, Xiaomi ‘Experience Stores’ are in the queue to offer greater offline threat to the leaders Vivo and Oppo.
“The top five brands accounted for almost three-quarters of shipments, with the top four all growing and adding 10 per cent to their cumulative share compared with the same quarter a year ago,” Hattie He quoted, Canalys Research Analyst.
China’s market has turned into a race between the 4 heavyweights; Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. The companies have closed the envelope of growth for other companies, including the legendary, Apple Inc.
