Hundreds of people gathered in Carlisle City Centre on the last Saturday of June to commemorate Armed Forces Day. This annual event provides an opportunity to honor the brave men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving personnel, veterans, and cadets.
A Vibrant Display of Military Vehicles and Community Support
The city center buzzed with activity as military vehicles took center stage. Representatives from various military personnel groups and cadet forces mingled with the crowd. Onlookers marveled at the impressive displays, appreciating both the hardware and the dedication of those who serve. The event was a testament to the strong bond between the Armed Forces and the local community.
Local Dignitaries and Candidates Show Their Support
Prominent local figures attended the celebration, emphasizing the importance of recognizing our Armed Forces. John Stevenson, Conservative candidate for Carlisle, took a break from campaigning to participate. He expressed the significance of acknowledging the contributions of service members, support personnel, veterans, and their families. Meanwhile, Carlisle Liberal Democrat candidate Brian Wernham emphasized freedom as the cornerstone of a fair society.
Cumbria’s Proud Military Legacy
Cumbria has a rich military history, playing a vital role in the defense of the UK and the wider world. Recently, the Dutch Air Force conducted an exercise called ‘TAC BLAZE’ at Carlisle Airport, flying over the range at RAF Spadeadam. This collaboration underscores the continued importance of military readiness and cooperation.
